Rolland F. "Ron" Helkenn, 90, of Davenport formerly of Stockton, IA passed away Wednesday, May 17, 2017 in Bettendorf. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am Saturday, May 20, 2017 in the Runge Mortuary Chapel. Visitation will be Friday from 3:00 to 7:00 pm at the mortuary. Burial, with military honors, will be at Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Bennett Ambulance Service or New Liberty Fire Department. Online condolences may be expressed at www.rungemortuary.com. Ron was born July 7, 1926 in Davenport, the son of Ferdinand and Minetta Helkenn. On November 22, 1952 he married Gladys E. Claussen in Davenport. She preceded him in death on November 4, 2013. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. Mr. and Mrs. Helkenn farmed in Scott County, retiring in 2001. He was a member of the Knights of Pythias. In later years he enjoyed tinkering with Oliver Tractors and attending polka dances, card club and getting together with family as much as possible. Survivors include sons: DuWayne "Dewey" (Pat) Helkenn and Dennis (Linda) Helkenn; four grandchildren: Christy, Jamie, Paul Helkenn and Shannon (Ryan) LaPay and great grandchildren, Carter and Regan. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Diane, two sisters and his parents.
